Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
